Dear Mr. Broyles,

I am writing to you regarding the proposed Trail Gulch Seismic Mapping project. I am deeply concerned about both this proposed project and the neighboring Iron Point 3D project. I respectfully request that you analyze these projects cumulatively. Due to their geographic and temporal proximity, the similarity of the potential impacts, and the scope of the two projects together a cumulative impact analysis is required.

The Trail Gulch project overlaps significantly with inventoried roadless areas, winter elk habitat, and cutthroat trout habitat. The project area is characterized by steep, landslide-prone slopes, and the entire area has a long history of significant geological instability.

Your analysis must include the potential impacts that could arise from:
• Driving vibroseis trucks on minimally maintained gravel roads and on steep slopes,
• Potential runoff and sedimentation from the proposed activity,
• Impacts to wildlife from helicopter use during the project,
• Impact to unstable slopes,
• Impact from the explosion of several thousand pounds of dynamite in such a sensitive area,
• Impact of stringing several hundred miles of receivers connected by cables across the landscape.

As a result, the only way to ensure that these actions will have no significant adverse impacts on the lives and livelihoods of the public and the environment is to analyze them jointly and conduct an environmental assessment for both projects simultaneously.

In addition, I request that the US Forest Service issue a moratorium on seismic mapping projects until the short term and long term impacts of large-scale projects in such a geologically unstable area can be ascertained.
