Many families in our community rely upon natural gas for heating, cooking, and hot water for bathing. Citizens for a Healthy Community recognizes we will need to continue drilling for natural gas for some time in the future until we have developed renewable, non-polluting energy to replace fossil fuels. However, oil and gas production and delivery as currently allowed under state and federal law has the potential for harming our community. In some places where oil and gas development has occurred, the community’s health is at risk from breathing air contaminated with high levels of ozone and drinking water poisoned with toxic chemicals.
