On October 17, 2022 Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland officially proposed to administratively withdraw 225,000 acres of the Thompson Divide from future oil and gas leasing for a 20-year period. This begins a 90-day public comment period, including a Wednesday, December 14, 2022 public meeting in Carbondale. This administrative proposal includes oil and gas minerals in the upper North Fork Valley located in Gunnison County. See map here.
