Take Action on the Governor’s Oil & Gas Taskforce

December 4, 2014 –

Carpool with CHC to Testify in Rifle on Dec. 10th & Submit Written Comments to the Governor’s Oil & Gas Taskforce.

The oil and gas industry has been packing the public meetings of the Governor’s Oil & Gas Task Force with their supporters.  The Taskforce members need to hear the other side of the story.  They need to hear from you!

CHC is headed over to Rifle to offer public comments at a December 10th meeting of the Task Force in Rifle. Will you join us?  If you’re interested in carpooling to this meeting, contact CHC’s Executive Director Jim Ramey (chc.director@gmail.com or 970-399-9700) and we’ll get organized.

  • Where:  Farm Fresh Cafe 1733 Railroad Ave, Rifle, CO
  • When:  The Task Force will meet all day.  Public comment is from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  The CHC carpool will leave at 2:30 pm, location TBD.  We should arrive back to the North Fork by 9:30 pm.
  • Why:  To make your voices heard and have a say in new laws and regulations to reign in the oil and gas industry.

Want to submit a comment but can’t make it to the meeting on December 10th?  Our conservation partners at the Sierra Club have made it easy for you to submit a public comment, just click here and be sure to personalize your message.  Make sure to tell the Taskforce members why you are concerned about irresponsible drilling and fracking.

It’s really important that the Taskforce members hear from concerned residents as well, in addition to the college kids in Durango who were recruited and paid $25 an hour to stand below an “Energy Citizen” banner in blue t-shirts outside of the Taskforce’s meeting in Durango in October.

An 11th hour compromise earlier this year prevented Colorado residents from voting on two citizen-backed ballot initiatives to reign-in the oil and gas industry.  In exchange, Gov. Hickenlooper created an Oil & Gas Task Force charged with crafting legislative recommendations to improve regulations.

The Taskforce is honing-in on identifying the main issues for potential recommendations to the legislature, which are due by February.  They really need to hear your stories and concerns about irresponsible drilling and fracking.  Please join us on Dec. 10th in Rifle, or click here to submit a comment to the Taskforce online.
