Dear Commissioners,

I’m writing today to request that you issue a time-out on approving oil and gas activities in Delta County to give you and Staff the needed time to carefully review how Delta County can become a leader in protecting our health, safety and environment under your newfound powers to regulate oil and gas under SB 181.

Revising regulations is a year-long process that Delta County has committed to pre- SB 181. You owe it to us to not approve applications based on out-dated regulations that don’t rise to the level of new expectations. Delta County has pledged to be a leader in safeguarding the clean air, water, and environment we rely on, and SB 181 has granted you new authority to do so.

Our lives and livelihoods depend on the clean air, water, soil, and environment in this County, and I urge you to take heed of that as you consider this request for a time-out. There is too much at stake here in Delta County to continue approving projects before necessary regulatory revisions and rulemakings have been completed.

Please, issue a moratorium on approving oil and gas activities here in Delta County until the County has developed clear goals and metrics for prioritizing public health, safety and the environment, and revised its oil and gas regulations. It is time to move beyond just mitigation, and become a leader..

DELTA COUNTY NEEDS A TIME-OUT

ON

OIL AND GAS DEVELOPMENT APPLICATIONS

Delta County needs time to become a better regulator, a leader, to consider the implications of SB-181, and to exercise its newfound powers to regulate oil and gas. Delta County needs to hear from you!

Please ask the Delta County Commissioners to issue a moratorium on oil and gas applications to give them the time to meaningfully analyze and consider SB-181 and how to regulate with its new powers, and until

1. Delta County has set goals for prioritizing public, health safety and the environment under SB 181, and set goals for being a leader in clean air, water, and healthy communities under the Master Plan; and

2. Delta County has revised its oil and gas regulations.
