Dear Mr. Broyles,

I am writing to request that the US Forest Service enforce its rules and regulations, stop Gunnison Energy from continuing seismic operations prior to proposed project approval, and conduct an Environmental Assessment on the proposed Iron Point 3D Seismic Mapping Proposal.

First of all, Gunnison Energy needs to fined, penalized, and stopped for conducting Phase 1 activities of the proposed project prior approval. The US Forest Service cannot allow this company to violate US Forest rules and regulations. Second, environmental review of this project by means of a Categorical Exclusion is absolutely inappropriate for a project of this scale. The proposal would encompass 28,000 acres of public and private lands in the North Fork Valley, impacting three inventoried Colorado Roadless areas, mapped Canada Lynx habitat, cutthroat trout habitat, one of the most productive game units in Colorado, and vital irrigation infrastructure. The project area is prone to landslides - 30% of the landscape has slopes over 15 degrees. The Terror Creek Reservoir already requires constant monitoring for instability and movement.

This project creates significant impact due to:
• Use of heavy Vibroseis buggies on steep slopes,
• Drilling of hundreds of shot holes in Colorado Roadless areas,
• Use of hundreds to thousands of pounds of dynamite to generate seismic waves,
• The use of helicopters to deliver equipment and string hundreds of miles of seismic receiver lands across the landscape,
• The disruption of big game hunting seasons,
• Impact to threatened or endangered species habitat,
• Impacts to vital irrigation infrastructure.

As a result, the only way to ensure that this action will have no significant adverse impacts on the lives and livelihoods of the public and the environment is to require the company to follow rules and regulations, including securing required County permits, and conduct an environmental assessment for the project.

In addition, I request that the US Forest Service issue a moratorium on seismic mapping projects until the cumulative impacts of such projects in such a geologically unstable area can be ascertained.
