Dear Commissioners,

I am writing to you to respectfully request that you deny the Planning Department’s recommendation that Gunnison Energy’s proposed Iron Point 3D Seismic Mapping Specific Development Application be processed administratively.

The scope, scale, and intensity of this project demands a full, public process involving the Planning Commission.. The public deserves to know that the County is properly assessing the risks and protecting the clean air, water, and soil that we rely on.

Delta County’s regulations require that anything other than a minor oil and gas development be reviewed in detail by the Planning Commission, the Area Planning Committees, and the Board of County Commissioners. This project does not meet the definition of a minor oil and gas operation in Delta County’s Specific Development Regulations.

In addition, activity related to this project has already disrupted hunting seasons, and surveyors draping the landscape with flags, plastic tape, and spray paint. The Terror Ditch and Reservoir Company has raised grave concerns about the impact of this project on vital irrigation infrastructure and their dam. Furthermore, the application submitted by Gunnison Energy is incomplete. It fails to address numerous required topics including issues as basic as a start date, but also a complete list of irrigation infrastructure within ½ mile of the project area, the roads used during the project, and existence of geologic hazards in the project area.

For those reasons I request that you not approve the Planning Department’s recommendation to process this application administratively.
