CHC Is Hosting A Live Stream of CO Mesa University’s 2019 Water Course!

Water permeates virtually every issue that CHC is working on, from ensuring that we have enough water to sustain the valley and downstream users, and to keep that water free of oil and gas chemicals.

Unfortunately, water management in the west is a tangle of complex, inter-related laws and regulations from international treaties to county and municipal regulations. Understanding this complex web is more important than ever now, as the Colorado River Basin continues its trend of historic drought conditions.

Join Us To Watch Live Streaming of Three Critically Important Water Information Classes

at Paonia Public Library

  • February 11th, 6:00 – 9:00pm: Introduction to Colorado Water Supply, Use, and Law
  • February 18th, 6:00 – 9:00pm: Impacts of Drought and Aridification
  • February 25th, 6:00 – 9:00pm: Colorado River Drought Contingency Planning

Colorado Mesa University’s Ruth Powell Hutchin’s Water Center is hosting this 3-evening seminar series on water issues, management, and solutions on the West Slope, and across the Colorado River Basin. The seminars will be held in the CMU University Center Ballroom in Grand Junction, but will be available for livestream for free.

You can see the full draft schedule here.

These seminars are especially relevant to us on the West Slope as the Colorado River Basin and our sub-basins attempt to deal with drought conditions here, meeting our downstream compact requirements, and implementing demand reduction scenarios. The Colorado Water Conservation Board is considering virtually emptying Blue Mesa Reservoir to maintain levels in Lake Powell, a solution that could have dire impacts on water availability in the North Fork Valley. Join us, and learn more about what this means for us here.

This live stream will be FREE to the public, no registration needed.

If you would like to attend the class in person, there is a $45 registration fee, which gets you entrance into all three seminars, all course materials, and a light dinner. You can register to attend in person here.
