11 Jun Join CHC for a Hike on Jumbo Mountain on Sat., June 14
On Saturday, June 14, join hike leaders Jim Ramey from Citizens for a Healthy Community and Saura Sauter from the Western Slope Conservation center, for a hike on Jumbo to discuss the North Fork Alternative Plan. The North Fork Alternative Plan is a community-based proposal that was submitted to the BLM to protect the North Fork Valley’s public lands from the risks of irresponsible oil and gas development. Bring your questions about the North Fork Alternative to ask Sarah and Jim as we hike around this popular trail network.
BLM is currently finalizing preparation of a new draft Resource Management Plan (RMP) for the Uncompahgre Field Office, and will include the North Fork Alternative as one possible option in the draft RMP. This RMP will guide BLM management actions on everything from energy extraction and development to river management and recreation for the next 20 years, and your comments are crucial in determining the future of our public lands. Come learn about how to engage in this process, understand the resource issues at stake, and see the beauty of this area!
Contact Sarah at 970-527-5307 or sarah@theconservationcenter.org, or call Jim at 970-527-7779 or chc.director@gmail.com, to RSVP or for more details. For Saturday’s hike on Jumbo Mountain, meet at 9 a.m. on June 14th in the parking area on top of Pan American Drive. Bring plenty of water and dress appropriately. This moderately difficult hike will last up to three hours.
