14 Aug CHC Submits Comments on Whitewater Development Plan

Citizens for a Healthy Community, through our partners at the Western Environmental Law Center, submitted comments last week on the proposed Whitewater Unit Master Development Plan (MDP). The MDP, submitted by a Norwegian company Fram, calls for 108 oil wells in the area east of Whitewater and south of Palisade.

Highlights from our comments include:

• The inadequacy of the decades-old Resource Management Plan to guide oil and gas decisions in present day.
• The need to address methane waste issues by requiring available and cost-effective technologies.
• That the BLM impermissibly relies on mitigation measures to avoid a finding of significance relative to resource impacts of the Whitewater MDP
• The lack of cumulative impacts analysis, since Fram previously proposed 492 gas wells for this area.
