30 Oct CHC Files Objection to USFS Drilling Approval

October 30, 2015 –

CHC and our conservation partners at High Country Conservation Advocates and the Western Environmental Law Center filed an official objection to the U.S. Forest Service’s plans to approve new gas drilling and fracking in the Gunnison National Forest, northeast of Paonia.

The main issues in the objection were the Forest Service’s reliance upon a lesser Environmental Assessment to approve numerous new gas wells, the outdated nature of the BLM and Forest Service land use plans currently in place, and a failure to take a hard look at cumulative impacts that would result from approving the project.
