20 Sep BLM Holds Open House Meetings on Piceance Basin Development in Northwest Colorado

The BLM has proposed a new Resource Management Plan for the White River Field Office that would allow up to 21,200 new oil and gas wells over the next 20 years in Rio Blanco and Moffat Counties, and the northern edge of Garfield County.

The plan dramatically increases the risks of drilling and fracking, including air pollution and increased ozone levels, the potential for surface water contamination from spills, releases, and blowouts, and groundwater contamination from failing well casings and hydraulic fracturing.

The BLM White River Field Office is hosting public meetings next week to solicit public comment on the draft RMP and EIS, which are available online here.

Tell the BLM to stop irresponsible oil and gas development!

Stop by anytime between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. on each of the following meeting dates:

• Sept. 24 in Meeker at the Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds,
• Sept 25 in Rangely at the Colorado Northwestern Community College Weiss Building,
• Sept. 26 in Silt at the BLM Colorado River Valley Field Office, or
• Sept 27 in Grand Junction at the Clarion Inn.

The BLM will be making brief presentations at 4:30 pm and 6:00 pm each night. The public comment period closes December 14, but this is an excellent opportunity to help our friends in Northwest Colorado by engaging the BLM at these meetings.
