Elsewhere Studios: Inspired! Art At Work Symposium August 24-26

On August 24th – 26th Elsewhere Studios will be hosting the Inspired! Art at Work Symposium in Paonia.

This innovative project will feature four socially-engaged projects in a variety of formats including film, dance, performance, and sculpture exploring the relationship between people, society, our lands, our environment, and our homes.

The Symposium will feature the works of local artists and artists from across the globe.

Tanya Blacklight and Christine Palafox of Paonia will present a multimedia dance focused on the BLM’s decision to approve oil and gas developments in our watershed.

Clara Pena, also of Paonia, will present a film on the connection between energy development and the North Fork Valley.

Anna Macleod, of Ireland, works in sculpture, social action, writing, and other visuals. She will be exploring the importance of water in the North Fork Valley.

John K. Melvin is based all across the globe. He works in a variety of media, using the techniques of upcycling to present sculptures and other interactive works, and will be exploring climate change.

The Symposium will also feature a series of speakers and other events over the weekend, including Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of Braiding Sweetgrass : indigenous wisdom, scientific knowledge, and the teaching of plants, and Woody Tasch of Slow Money: investing as if food, farms, and fertility mattered.
