ACTION ALERT! Whitewater 108-Well MDP

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Grand Junction Field Office (GJFO) released their revised Environmental Assessment (EA) for Fram Operating, LLC’s Whitewater Unit Master Development Plan. The MDP calls for drilling 108 new wells from 12 new well pads. The BLM originally published an EA for the MDP in 2014. Western Environmental Law Center, on behalf CHC, Citizens for Clean Air, and Western Colorado Congress, filed a State Director Review in 2015. The decision was remanded to the Grand Junction Field Office for failure to analyze hydraulic fracturing.

The BLM addressed hydraulic fracturing as instructed in the State Director’s Decision, and also addressed other public comments in this revision. However, the current EA still has problems and the complexity of the 108-well project merits a full Environmental Impact Statement. The Fram Whitewater Unit Boundary is in both Mesa and Delta County. However, the proposed 108-well master development plan and the Fram Whitewater Project Area are only in Mesa County.

This 108-well MDP will impact Delta County’s air, water, and food, and will lay the groundwork for future expansion into the remainder of the unit Boundary and Delta County.

Tell the BLM to protect our air, water and foodsheds.
