05 Feb Action Alert! No Advance Notice on MOU with Gunnison Energy

Delta County announced that it will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gunnison Energy through an action item on the agenda for the Commissioner’s meeting on February 6, 2017.
 

The draft MOU states that the County supports Gunnison Energy’s request to renominate/release a lease that expired automatically in 2015 by operation of law. In exchange for this support by the County Gunnnison Energy commits to development of the lease via horizontal drilling and no-surface occupancy.

 
This MOU is concerning because the County did not consult the community that would be impacted by oil and gas development in the Hubbard Creek-North Fork Gunnison Watershed.
 

The County appears to be treating this as a routine administrative action. However, it is connected to large-scale oil and gas development plans proposed in the Hubbard Creek-North Fork Gunnison, East and West Muddy Creek Watersheds. There are a lot of questions that need answers, and the community’s concerns need to be considered before any action is taken on the MOU.
